Glimpses of Geelong’s Past Exhibition

Geelong Historical Society is holding its first historical exhibition of Geelong artefacts since it was formed in 1944.

The Exhibition. called Glimpses of Geelong’s Past, will be held at the Geelong Club at 74 Brougham Street, on two weekends, from October 9 to 11 and October 16 to 18.   All members of the general public are welcome to attend from 10 am to 4 pm each day. Admission is free.

The exhibition will display selected items from Geelong Historical Society’s vast collection. Items include Captain Foster Fyans’ chair and desk, ladies’ and babies’ clothing from the early 1900s, and selected photographs of Geelong’s bygone days. The Geelong Club will also be part of the exhibition. Designed by architect Charles Figgis and built in 1889, the building has changed little since its construction. Period furniture, numerous artworks, and photographs adorn the interior. A functional 19th-century billiard room is a masterpiece.
