Hurling at the Portarlington Celtic Festival

Hurling has long been renowned as the quintessential Irish sport. Considered the fastest field
sport in the world, hurling is quick-paced stick and ball sport that is unique to Irish culture.

Come watch the Geelong Gaels, our own local hurling club, perform an exhibition match
against our Melbourne rivals on Sunday 7th June as part of the National Celtic Festival in
Portarlington. Be prepared for competitive spirit, quick athleticism and a unique game as our
Geelong team, the only team in Victoria for those living outside of Melbourne, face up against
our city-based competitors to take home the glory.

The kids match starts at 10am, the women’s match is to be held from 12.15pm and the men’s
match from 1.15pm.

Try your hand at playing with a hurley, pick up the sliothar and have a crack at your aim getting it
through the target. The greatest number of successful shots on the day wins a prize!

Newcomers are welcome to the club regardless of previous experience with beginner training
sessions available. A fun, team-based sport made up of Irish and Australian players alike, our
hurling club is an opportunity to become part of a strong community here in Geelong.

Join us for live Irish music at the National Hotel, Geelong from 6.30pm and meet the team.
