The Art of the Needle, Traditional to Contemporary Textile Art.
The Embroiderers Guild, Victoria – Geelong, exhibition, September 13 &14, is not to
be missed. Textile art is increasingly seen as an art form and this year the exhibition
features demonstrations of different approaches to working with textiles. Jennie-
Maree Tempest, is a featured artist, teaching her three-dimensional techniques and
presenting a minor exhibition of her incredible creations. Fern Smith will bring the
World’s Longest Book and those who wish can add a page.
Most importantly there is the opportunity to see a broad range of pieces – traditional
and contemporary, that members of the branch have produced in the last two years.
The work is breath taking and broad based. There will also be a gift stall, a raffle
featuring handmade items and hampers, recycled embroidery supplies and many
craft related and specialist embroidery books. Light refreshments will be available.
Set aside some time to visit and enjoy the journey from traditional to contemporary embroidery
