Geelong football great Cameron Ling has visited his old primary school, bringing the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Cup with him.
Lingy delighted students Fyans Park Primary School in Newtown on Wednesday morning, showing off the Cup and having a kick of the footy with kids, including his son Ged.
“To see the kids here today so excited reminds me of when I was their age, dreaming of one day playing for the Cats. Having the Premiership Cup visit schools and communities like this can spark that same dream for the next generation – and that’s what makes this tour so worthwhile,” Lingy said.
Ling, himself a three-time Premiership winner with the Cats, still enjoys the excitement of the finals series.
“I always get the goosebumps this time of year,” he said.
As for whether or not he thinks the Cup may soon be returning to Geelong, Lingy isn’t looking too far ahead.
“The nerves are building for Friday night, let’s get over the Hawks first,” he said.
“This is going back to the old playing days cliché, one week at a time, but you can look a little bit further and just picture Paddy Dangerfield and Chris Scott holding up that Premiership Cup, It would be very, very special.”
The local school is one of the final stops on the Cup’s tour of Australia, with a few more visits in regional Victoria before it heads to Melbourne.
