Special aircraft will be sent to areas of need across the state ahead of the fire season.
Geelong will be one of several areas to have an air tanker during the fire season as the roll out begins.
Emergency Management Victoria’s deputy commissioner Brett Boatman says that Avalon Airport will again host the tankers from November.
“We’re also going to have a large helicopter based in the Colac area,” he said.
“And we will see a medium firebombing aircraft heading to the Lethbridge area for the first time.
“That will provide us with a greater coverage for the Western Plains area, and we are lucky that we have an extra six aircraft this season which allows us to expand our coverage.”
Tankers will also head to the north-west of the state starting from this week.
