Avalon airport users are displeased with a big jump in parking fees.
From September 1 daily rates jumped to $49 per day, equal to that of Melbourne Airport.
Avalon Airport continues to sell its parking options based on their proximity to the terminal, and that the first 30 minutes remains free.
“The frustration of airport drop-offs, parking struggles in multi-level carparks, and long walks back to the terminal can be disheartening,” a recent social media post reads.
“Our carpark is strategically positioned in front of the domestic terminal, a mere 3-minute walk to the farthest point.”
Proximity and cost of parking has long been a selling point of airport, as noted by one responder to the post.
“We parked there for 4 days for just over $50. Short walk to terminal. So convenient,” user Cindy said.
That prompted the response from user Ned that “they’ve almost doubled their car parking rates out of nowhere,” who noted that four days parking now costs $94.
The airport issued a statement saying its parking is “the most competitive at terminal airport parking across Victoria”, and that work is underway to implement more efficient airport parking systems due to come into effect from December this year.
