The City of Greater Geelong will start distributing fresh bins to locals as the city slowly transitions to the Victorian standard four-bin system.
Under state legislation, all councils will need to move to the four-bin system by 2030.
Green garden bins will soon be updated with fresh lime green lids, while bright red lids will be on rubbish bins from later this year.
New City-issued bins will be made up with 70 per cent of recycled plastics.
Purple glass-only bins will be introduced across Geelong by 2027.
However locals are still able to put glass into the yellow recycling bins.
