More concerns of bird flu in the region after a seal and a dolphin were found dead in the region.
A dead seal found on the weekend at Rippleside is being investigated – the second seal to be found in the region in recent weeks.
City of Greater Geelong confirmed it was aware of the seal’s death.
“At this stage, council has not been advised of the outcome of any testing undertaken,” a statement said.
“As a precaution, temporary parawebbing has been installed near the deceased seal while council awaits further correspondence from DEECA.”
That was followed by a dolphin being found on Monday on a beach near Lorne.
DEECA has reaffirmed it’s message about being safe around wildlife.
“As a precaution, people who regularly work or interact closely with birds, particularly sick or dead birds, should follow standard safety advice and hygiene measures,” they said.
“If you come into contact with sick or dead wildlife and you develop flu-like symptoms, call your doctor for medical advice and let them know about any contact with sick or dead wildlife in the last 10 days.”
