Bird flu not global variant

The national agriculture industry is breathing a sigh of relief after studies on the outbreak of avian flu in Meredith.

There were major concerns the virus was the H5N1 virus that has become a major concern around the globe.

Currently Australia is the only continent to not have an outbreak.

However agriculture testing has confirmed that the virus detected on the farm is H7N7, which is not an uncommon flu.

The diagnosis will however require the euthanising of potentially thousands of birds.

A case in a human in Australia of H1N1 has however been confirmed.

The Victorian Health Department has revealed a child who traveled to India in March contracted the virus, though they have subsequently recovered.
