The region continues to battle its way through bushfire emergencies after yesterday’s extreme weather.
The Carlisle River fire remains a serious concern this morning after the blaze broke containment lines yesterday afternoon.
The fire on the edge of the Otways broke it’s containment lines yesterday afternoon, seeing the blaze move to the north east including areas like Forest.
Areas like Lorne, Aireys Inlet and Apollo By are also being told to prepare their bushfire survival plan as the fire risk continues.
CFA chief Jason Heffernan says there is little relief on the radar.
“The challenge is there is no rain reasonably foreseeable for the next two to three weeks,” he said.
“It is going to be a long haul, it is a marathon not a sprint.
“We could be seeing up to eight weeks for us to be able to completely contain, patrol and get these fires to a situation where we can comfortably walk away.”
Geelong’s weather will take a major drop in temperature this morning, down to a top of 24 today, with the CFA putting the fire danger rating at high.
