A local CFA volunteer is encouraging more people around the region to join the fire authority, as part of a recruitment drive through National Volunteer Week.
The CFA currently has 52,000 volunteers across Victorian communities.
The ‘Give Us A Hand’ program in 2023 saw more than 1,800 new recruits join their local brigades.
Torquay’s Michelle Abro joined just ahead of the last fire season after moving to the Surf Coast more than two years ago.
She said she enjoyed being part of the community.
“The people you meet through the CFA comes from so many walks of life,” she said.
“They’re really passionate about what they do, there’s lots of training and different skills I wouldn’t get in my office jobs, or my corporate jobs.”
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer are being urged to contact their local brigade or head to the CFA website.
