A peak mental illness support group says there is no support for people needing help across the Geelong region.
The Mental Illness Fellowship says up to 1,200 people across Geelong are ending up in hospital due to a lack of support services.
CEO Tony Stevenson said more than 30,000 people in Victoria are not getting the support they need for mental health issues.
“Their needs are critical and if they’re not getting the support they need in the community, then the only option is to present at emergency,” he said.
“Australia wide, we’re facing a shortage of support for 154,000 people.”
