Those taking advantage of the unofficial long weekend by going camping across the Surf Coast and Otways are being reminded of safety around campfires.
Authorities are concerned the weather conditions are creating higher bushfire risks than previous years.
Glenn Sharp from the Barwon South West Conservation Regulator said there were simple ways to make sure a fire is safe.
“We call it nature’s TV in a sense,” he said.
“We ask that people, before they go to bed, that they make it safe so it’s cool to touch, so it’s cool to leave.
“That way they can go to be with peace of mind that the fire isn’t going to spread.”
Campers are also being reminded that all rubbish brought to campsites must be collected and taken home, not dumped or burned in a campfire.
There are also season road closures on public land in force over the long weekend.
Authorities warn it is a serious offence to use them while they are closed.
