More than 50 people have been arrested during a police operation across Werribee targeting dangerous driving and car thefts.
Local police teamed up with specialist units including the Dog Squad, for Operation Shows, which was held over two nights in late March.
Among those arrested, a 47-year-old Wyndham Vale allegedly driving a ute with false number plates.
Police say he was charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, unlicenced driving and breaching bail.
More than 1200 people have been arrested for over 2,000 offences across Wyndham and Melbourne’s west since the operation started in 2022.
Senior Sergeant Peter West from Werribee Police said they were patrolling the local area from the ground and sky while residents slept.
“Not only is the success of this operation measured by the number of people we arrested, it also sends a strong message that we may be out at anytime, combining our resources and swiftly arresting anyone committing these offences,” he said.
“You won’t know when Operation Shows is running, so we’d strongly suggest anyone thinking of stealing cars, evading police or driving dangerously in the area to think again.”
