Car thefts climb in Wyndham but fall in Geelong

Car thefts in Wydham have risen by 64 per cent since 2013 according to Victoria Police data.

But while the jump is the third-highest in Victoria , it pales in comnparison to the leafy Melbourne municipality of Stonnington, which recorded an astonishing 167 per cent leap oer the same period.

The City of Melbourne came in second with a 72 per cent jump.

The number of cars stolen in Wyndham climbed from 462 in 2013 to 760 last year according to figures obtained by the Herald Sun.

In regional Victoria, the numbers in Ballarat more than doubled – up from 278 to 606 over the decade – while Greater Bendigo rose from 142 to 292.

According to News Corp the Holden Commodore remains the vehicle of choice for car thieves, followed by the Ford Falcon, Toyota Corolla and Toyota HiLux.
