Geelong’s famous floating Christmas Tree will be back this year.

The City of Greater Geelong has announced its annual festival program will kick off on November 11, with the lighting of the iconic structure on the waterfront.

The six-minute Floating Christmas Tree Sound and Light Show will run every 15 minutes each night from 8.30pm until midnight.

There will be family friendly times will happen on Saturdays during December.

The floating tree will be off the waterfront until January 7.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken said the program boosts local tourism and the economy.

“Since moving our Christmas in Geelong Opening Night event to Saturday night more families and visitors from outside the region are coming to enjoy the festivities,” Cr Aitken said.

“Beyond the tree, our Christmas in Geelong program is always well-received.

“It brings families together and gets everyone into the festive season spirit. I’m really looking forward to opening night and for all the other magical Christmas activities and events we’ve planned this year.”

The full program is expected to released next month.
