Geelong’s Carols by the Bay is celebrating its 30th year this year.
Founder and local singer Denis Water started the Geelong tradition in 1997.
“The reson I started it was to feature the waterfront, have the community event and the obvious one was carols at Christmas time,” he said.
The event on November 21 will also include the lighting of the floating Christmas Tree.
Mayor Stretch Kontelj said added features to the tree included water jets and laser lights, with an improved base.
However, he said the tree’s use-by date had passed, with work on a new attraction.
“Council has established a sub-committee to look a scope of works which we’re going to take out to a global expression of interest,” Cr Kontelj said.
“Looking for a design that we can commit to, so we have a new tree in place for Christmas 2028.”
More information on the night can be found here.
