After almost a month of commuter pain, drivers are set to see an earlier reprieve than first thought along the Surf Coast Highway.

Rail Projects Victoria has confirmed level crossing removal works have been completed at the Grovedale crossing along the Surf Coast Highway almost a week ahead of schedule.

The section of road between Baanip Boulevard and the level crossing has been closed since February 9 and wasn’t expected to reopen until next Thursday, March 7.

The road will reopen on Friday afternoon at an unconfirmed time, with the hope it will be free to use by the afternoon peak.

Commuters have been needing to detour through Ghazeepore Road or Barwon Heads Road, adding up to half an hour to their journey over the last three weeks.
