The City of Greater Geelong is keen to see the final report on the region’s public transport network.
The Department of Public Transport and Planning released a consultation summary earlier this week, identifiying strong demand for more frequent buses, better connections, more direct routes and shorter travel times.
However, no recommendations were listed in the summary.
The City says it needs clearer direction from the state government on the network’s future, particularly the Moorabool Street bus interchange.
The Coalition has already pledged to move the interchange from the CBD to the train station, running shuttle buses across central Geelong, if it is elected in next month’s state election.
However, member for Geelong Christine Couzens has slammed the move, arguing the city centre needed a bus stop.
She said constituents have told her they want a bus stop in central Geelong.
“I am working with the Minister to ensure we are looking at the best possible solutions,” Ms Couzens said.
“I agree the amenity needs to be improved.
“There’s crime everywhere, every now and then there’s crime that happens there (train station) too.
“It’s not about shifting the problem, it’s about providing the best possible services for our community.”
