Geelong Council is calling for people to join a community panel that will determine future development of the Pakington North Precinct.
There’s two weeks left for locals to express their interest and apply, with the City after up to 60 contributors following backlash and opposition to the original Urban Design Framework (UDF).
The City says it has already received a significant number of applications from community members keen to collaborate and co-design
Mayor Trent Sullivan is encouraging as many locals as possible to join.
“Change is coming, it’s inevitable, but we have to manage it and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.
“So I encourage everybody, even if you haven’t been a part of a process like this before, don’t be afraid, put your hand up.
“We want input from absolutely everybody we can from all diverse ranges.”
The UDF will govern building height, setbacks and green spaces in the area around Pakington St north, Mr Sullivan said Council was keen to have locals decide.
“We’ve heard one that’s consistent, the community would like deeper input into this.
“So we’re brining it right in, creating a panel that will have specific recommendations and insights into this protect.”
Expressions of Interest to join the Pakington North Precinct Community Panel will be accepted until 11.59pm on Wednesday 6 December.
The community’s ideas and insights will help to form a new UDF and way forward for the area, before coming to Council for adoption mid-next year.
