Geelong council officers will start inspecting properties ensuring locals are prepared for the upcoming fire season.
The CFA has announced the Fire Danger Period will start on November 20 for the Greater Geelong region.
The city has announced fire prevention officers will start in the northern suburbs this month before branching out.
Property owners are being advised they need to make sure all grass is cut and maintained.
Other materials including tree branches, garden waste and other waste also need to be cleared from properties.
Landowners will be issued with a notice if a property is deemed to be at risk or insufficient action has been undertaken.
Officers can inspect a property a second time.
Mayor Trent Sullivan said it was about keeping locals and the region safe over summer.
“We’ve all come to understand the dangers associated with the fire season, and reducing the risks involves everyone following advice and taking the necessary precautions, particularly with the increasingly hot weather,” Cr Sullivan said.
“I encourage everyone to respond accordingly.”
It comes as parts of the Surf Coast pose some of Victoria’s greatest fire risk this summer.
The CFA admits it is keeping a close eye on towns including Aireys Inlet and Torquay.
