His sister, Isobella Carmody, faced the media on Wednesday morning, pleading for help in finding her lost brother.

Ms Carmody understands her brother may have been frightened by a phone call he received from a friend informing him another friend had died suddenly.

“I think he’s very frightened where he is,” she said.

“He’s not violent, he’s not an angry person … he may look rough because he’s been rough.

“It’s one of those situations where you show people a photo of someone who looks perfectly nice, but he won’t look like that now.”

Ms Carmody said she spent most of Monday night searching the streets of Lara for Mr Carmody without luck.

She said Daniel would typically phone his mother when he was frightened or stressed and said he usually goes “when he is afraid.”

Corio Acting Senior Sergeant Paul O’Connell said there have previously been reports of Mr Carmody going missing, but not for this long.

Sergeant O’Connell said Police had been told of a few sightings in recent days but haven’t had a breakthrough.

“Over the last month or so, police have followed up numerous potential sightings of Daniel in the Melbourne CBD and South Melbourne area,” he said.

“It’s my understanding his predominant use of transport is V/Line trains and he gets around on foot.

“We are significantly concerned about his welfare.”

Anyone who sees Mr Carmody is urged to contact Corio police station on 5273 9555.
