Detectives investigate bin blazes

Detectives are investigating a spate of rubbish and bin fires in Belmont.

Fire crews were called to several small blazes in the early hours of Wednesday in areas including Reynolds Road and Colac Grove.

There were also blazes reported on Tuesday morning.

Senior Sergeant Mark Guthrie from Geelong CIU said it was worrying.

“Setting fire to the bins may seem like nothing’s going to happen, but we don’t know what’s in the bin,” he said.

“It could easily spread to a house or car.”

Sr Sgt Guthrie urged locals in the area to check their CCTV cameras and come forward with any footage.
