Geelong doctors have walked off the job as part of a statewide strike.
Doctors in the public health sector across Victoria taking action at 1.30 this afternoon for a four hour period as part of their ongoing dispute with the state over pay and conditions.
The medical union raising doctor fatigue as a key issue, saying that it has the potential to put patients at risk.
Doctor Zak Doherty saying the requests from the medical fraternity were not unrealistic.
“We’re asking four days off a fortnight, we’re asking to not have to do 14 hour shifts,” he said.
“And were’ asking to not have to work seven days in a row, but the government has not met us on that.”
Action will end around 5.30, though the region’s emergency rooms have not been included as part of the action.
