More than 20 drivers have been caught speeding across Geelong as part of a police operation.
West Connect has seen highway patrol units target high-risk driving on major roads across Western Victoria, including the Geelong region.
Of the 26 offences detected locally, police also intercepted three unregistered vehicles and handed out one defect notice.
Twenty-three breath tests and seven drug tests were conducted, but no-one tested positive.
Operation West Connect will continue focusing on speeding, distracted and impaired drivers.
Inspector Justine Ryan said five people have died on local roads so far this year.
“We’re continuing to run Operation West Connect to help keep all road users safe on roads out in the state’s west, and drive down these high levels of road trauma we’re experiencing,” she said.
“Speeding continues to be a major contributing factor to serious injury and fatal collisions on regional roads, and yet we overwhelmingly throughout this operation, we continue to catch so many people going over the speed limit.
“Slowing down and sticking to the speed limit, as well as something as simple as putting on your seat belt, are things we can all do to remain safe on the roads”
