Local police are urging drivers to keep an eye out for wildlife on our roads.
Officers across Geelong and the Surf Coast have warned of a rise in road accidents involving kangaroos recently.
They said they’re that while they’re always happy to help out a joey, it often doesn’t end well for the mothers.

They’ve provided the following advice to motorists across the region on their Eyewatch pages:
- Slow down at dawn and dusk. This is when most wildlife is active.
- Stay alert in all conditions. Scan for animals, especially in fog or rain.
- Stay vigilant! Scan the roadside for wildlife and pay attention to crossing signs.
- Adjust your speed to road conditions to avoid potential collisions.
- If you see one kangaroo, expect more. Other mob members may follow.
They’ve urged locals to contact 136 186 if they encounter an injured animal.
