A man has lost his licence after being caught driving through Geelong’s CBD at twice the speed limit, just hours before the start of a long weekend police blitz.
Police clocked the 35-year-old’s car at 117km/h, well above the 60 limit, as it rocketed along Ryrie Street at 2.57am on Thursday.
The penalty for travelling at more than 45 km/h above the speed limit in Victoria is a fine of $962 plus loss of licence for 12 months.
The man will also face an $1100 fee to retrieve his car from impoundment.
Earlier in the evening a woman had her licence suspended after being booked for drink driving at Leopold.

She allegedly returned a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.128 – more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
The woman will be disqualified from driving for up to 14 months.
She will also need to complete a Drink Driver Behaviour Change Program and, once her licence is reinstated, have an alcohol interlock device fitted by Vicroads.
Convicted drink drivers must also maintain a BAC of zero while driving, for a period of three years.
