Local police have issued a warning for electric scooter riders, after community concerns around increased illegal use across the Bellarine in particular.
E-scooters have been permanently legalised across Victoria, but there are fines in place for riders who break strict rules.
Police have posted to the local Eyewatch pages, telling residents that their priority is ensuring roads and footpaths remain safe for all users.

They’ve reminded riders of the following penalties, in place for people caught putting others at risk.
- Riding electric scooters on footpaths – $305.
- Riding electric scooter on a road with a speed limit over 60km/h – $356.
- Riding an electric scooter if under the age of 16 – $305.
- Exceeding speed of over 20km/h – $254.
- Carrying any other person on an electric scooter – $254.
- Consuming liquor while riding an electric scooter – $407.
- Riding an electric scooter or bicycle without wearing a correctly fitted, approved helmt – $407.
- Riding an electric scooter alongside another rider or pedestrian travelling on a road or related area in the same direction – $204.
Police said they will be watching out for breaches of these rules.
