Surf Coast Shire has officially begun its parking fine refund scheme.
Council says it incorrectly set penalties for several fines dating back to 2003.
Eligible motorists are able to apply now for between $30 and $60 back for fines that were incorrectly charged in the past.
The scheme officially opened on Thursday and will run for the next 12 months.
Surf Coast CEO Robyn Seymour said they realised it was an inconvenience.
“We aim to repay as many people as we can with the overcharged portion of their fine, so we urge anyone who thinks they may be eligible for a refund to visit our website,” she said.
“The process has been designed to be as simple as we can make it.
“Anyone having trouble with the online system can contact our team and work through options to arrange your refund.”
Council says it hopes to have refunds issued within 30 days of applications being made.
