The CFA is warning travellers of increased fire danger this week, as temperatures increase.

Geelong is heading for a top of 22 today, but the forecast is for 40 degrees on Wednesday.

It will be warmer at the end of the week – 32 degrees with a possible shower.

However, the fire authority is worried about conditions in the state’s north, where temperatues will be sitting in the mid to high 40s in areas including Mildura.

A total fire ban has been declared today for the Northern Country area, which includes Bendigo and Echuca, with strong winds expected.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said they are expecting that TFB to be the first of many this week.

He said conditions could make it hard for crews to suppress a blaze if one starts.

“We’re asking people to follow the strict conditions associated with the Total Fire Ban declaration,” he said.
