The Fire Danger Period for the Geelong region is coming into force earlier than usual.
The CFA has announced the season will start on November 20 for Greater Geelong, Borough of Queenscliffe, Golden Plains and Surf Coast Shires.
It will be in force until May 1.
Restrictions mean no burn-offs can be lit unless residents have a written permit from a fire authority.
And no fires can be lit at all in the open if there is a Total Fire Ban.
In previous years, restrictions have been enforced in December.
However parts of the Surf Coast pose some of the state’s greatest fire risk this summer.
The CFA admits it is keeping a close eye on towns including Aireys Inlet and Torquay.
