The Great Ocean Road will close to traffic between Lorne and Skenes Creek from 6.30am on Thursday 22 January.
A helicopter recovery mission has been announced, set to remove vehicles from beaches after flash flooding swept them out to the waterfront.
Motorists are being urged to plan ahead and detour via the Princes Highway through Colac, warned the diversion will add significant time and distance to journeys.
It’s expected to reopen at 10:30am, but the Department of Transport and Planning warns that time could change.
The morning Apollo Bay V/Line service will detour inland and skip stops at Kennett River and Wye River.
An additional coach will run between Lorne and Apollo Bay to help passengers.
Motorists are urged to monitor the VicTraffic website for updates on the road’s reopening at https://traffic.transport.vic.gov.au/.
