Avalon Airport could soon start taking international flights again.
The local airport’s owners have hinted an announcement could be made within days, while at the opening of Australia Post’s parcel warehouse in the precinct.
David Fox said they had been talking to several airlines about using Avalon as a base, while also receiving support from the Victorian and federal governments.
An international terminal was built when AirAsia started international flights to Malaysia in December 2018.
The low-cost carrier had been planning to expand services when COVID-19 hit, and borders were closed.
AirAsia then moved its headquarters to Melbourne Airport in 2022, and the local terminal has been sitting empty since.
