Local man charged over Laverton assaults

A Geelong man has been charged over two assaults at Laverton.

Police say a 34-year-old man was waiting at Laverton Train Station on Saturday afternoon when he was allegedly hit several times with a small knife.

The victim managed to escape and call for help, suffering minor injuries.

Police allege the offender assaulted a 23-year-old Point Cook man on a train, but he was not injured.

A 41-year-old Geelong man was arrested by an off-duty police officer on his way to an ANZAC Day service, who witnessed the incident.

The man was held down before other police arrived.

The local man is facing charges including intentionally and recklessly cause injury, and assault with a weapon.

He is due back in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
