A 29-year-old man is under police guard in hospital after an allegedly stolen van ran red lights before crashing into a truck in Geelong South overnight.
The driver was thrown from the van after the crash and tried to get back in and drive off before being detained by a member of the public.
“It is alleged the van took off at a fast rate of speed on the wrong side of the road,” police said in a statement.

“A short time later the van was spotted allegedly running a red light on Yooringa Avenue in Norlane.
“The same van allegedly collided with a truck at the intersection of Latrobe Terrace and Kilgour Street in South Geelong after running another red light.”
The driver of the truck was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
