A Norlane man has been ordered to stand trial over an alleged carjacking in Geelong’s northern suburbs.
Cory Dean Abbot is accused of threatening an elderly man in Iona Street, Norlane, in February, before driving off in the victim’s Holden Commodore.
Abbott was shot during an alleged confrontation with police a short time later.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Abbott’s lawyer argued during the committal that his client’s homemade gun was not capable of being fired, according to a report in the Geelong Advertiser.
He has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated carjacking with a firearm, disqualified driving and assault.
The matter has been adjourned until next month.
