Vandals have targeted Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles’ office in Geelong.
The Brougham Street building had one window smashed while others were spray painted with the phrases “Weapons out of Geelong” and “War crimes start here”.
Mr Marles, Minister for Defence, has called the act reprehensible.
The Corio MP said his staff were unable to go to work today, meaning they couldn’t provide locals with an important community service.
He expressed concern for the rise in this behaviour over the last eighteen months and said there is no place for it in Geelong.
The office was targeted sometime between 1.30am and 7am on Wednesday.
FRV was called in just after 8am, with firefighters and a hazmat crew arriving on scene within two minutes.
They found that a product appeared to have been sprayed in the building, the scene deemed under control at 8.25am.
Police have confirmed entry to the building was not gained and no arrests have been made.
They’ve asked anyone who witnessed the incident or might have information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
