A seven-car pile-up on the Princes Highway north of Geelong caused major delays towards Melbourne of up to 40 minutes this morning (Tuesday).
The Department of Transport’s (DoT) Andrew Crook says emergency services have now largely cleared the scene on the scene on the Geelong side of Lara, but poor weather hampered efforts.
“It’s slow going…[traffic is] pushing back well before Bacchus Marsh Road now, so depending on where you’re going to and from try detouring through Lara,” he said earlier.
Drivers heading towards Melbourne had been advised to get on to the highway from Avalon Road to avoid the incident and the DoT says traffic diverting through Lara had been heavy.
It’s now advising that lanes on the Princes have re-opened and traffic is starting to ease, with the next congestion point on the road starting around Laverton.
