It may not be cricket season for some time yet, but new nets at Grinter Reserve are nearly finished.
All levels of government have contributed to the near million dollar project, which includes new turf and netting to replace the old facilities.
City of Greater Geelong contributed $273,560 to the project, with $100,000 from the state and $476,440 from the federal government.
“We are rapt for Newcomb and District Cricket Club’s players, who’ll now be able to train together in a brand new, high quality facility,” Mayor Trent Sullivan said.
Member for Geelong Christine Couzens said it was a great outcome.
“It is exciting for community sporting clubs to have upgrades to their facilities. I congratulate the Newcomb and District Cricket Club on their work to provide first-class facilities for their members and locals to enjoy.”
Member for Corangamite Libby Coker said the project would be great for the area.
“Our region is undergoing rapid population growth and major community infrastructure is
needed to create liveable and connected communities,” she said.
“The Newcomb and District Cricket Club run fantastic programs, and with the continued emergence of women’s cricket across our region, these upgrades will promote many new opportunities and encourage more players to join the Dinos which is so exciting.”
