People parking their vehicles in Geelong have noticed a rise in costs over recent days.

The City of Greater Geelong has confirmed a $0.10 increase to the hourly parking rate, as well as a $2.80 increase to the all-day parking capped price.

In 3P and 4P areas in particular, the capped price has been removed and replaced with a standard hourly rate of $3.70.

Council has also endorsed the introduction of paid parking in additional areas.

Executive Director of City Life Anthony Basford rises have been minimised where possible.

“Council reviews parking fees every year as part of the Budget process to make sure they are competitive with private operators and to respond to market conditions,” he said.

“The key role of parking fees and time limits is to ensure there is turnover of spaces during busy periods so more people can access and support central Geelong businesses each day.”

It follows the news Council has adopted plans for a free 2P parking session per vehicle, per day.
