Police appeal for witnesses after serious collision

Greater Geelong Highway Patrol officers have called for the public’s help after a serious Princes Freeway collision that sparked huge Geelong-bound delays.

Police have provided an update on the incident in Avalon, called to the scene around 11.20am on Thursday.

It’s understood a Toyota Camry collided with the rear of a Haval wagon near a roadworks site merge, the Haval flipping over the median centre rail.

The two people in the Haval, a 72-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman from Grovedale, suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

The 38-year-old Maidstone man behind the wheel of the Toyota remained on scene and assisted police with their enquiries.

His passenger copped minor injuries.

Police have called for witnesses and dashcam footage, with the investigation ongoing.
