Geelong police are expecting roads to and from the coast to be busy as people take advantage of the long weekend.
Operation Amity is now in force across Victoria until midnight Monday, targeting offences such as drink and drug driving, speeding and incorrect use of mobile phones.
Acting Senior Sergeant Damon Patralakis from Geelong’s Highway Patrol warned people to behave over the break.
“We’ll have a focus on those major arterials, especially those coastal holiday hotspots and the rural roads between,” he said.
Acting Sr Sgt Patralakis also urged people to plan ahead of Saturday’s hot weather.
“Expect the roads to be busier than usual, but give yourself plenty of time so you’re not rushing.
“We’d encourage them to take extra care on those rural roads, especially those they may not be familiar with.”
Water police will also be patrolling beaches across the Surf Coast over the long weekend.
They are reminding jet ski riders to be careful around beaches, especially when coming into shore where swimmers may be.
Officers will also be at boat ramps to conduct breath tests and licence checks, as well as carrying out boat inspections.
