Locals are being warned to brace for tomorrow’s bushfire conditions, with watch and act messages issued urging people at the southern end of the Surf Coast to prepare to evacuate before sunset.
VicEmergency pointing to areas including areas like Forest, Barwon Downs and areas to their east to prepare to leave tonight.
Police and SES will also be conducting door knocks in the area, but say they may not be able to make it to every property.
“It is strongly recommended that you Prepare to evacuate before sunset today,” the message said.
“There is a bushfire at Carlisle River and Gellibrand that is not yet under control.
“If you choose to stay, emergency services may not be able to help you.”
Areas including Birregurram Aireys Inlet, Fairhaven, Lorne and the Wye River area are also included in a watch and act advising locals to monitor conditions ahead of tomorrow’s fire conditions.
A statewide total fire ban is in place for the region tomorrow, with the central region which includes Geelong and the surf coast rated as extreme danger.
Geelong is set to hit 44 degrees tomorrow.
