A senate committee’s probe into Victoria’s decision not to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games kicks off in Melbourne today.

The public hearing will be looking into Australia’s preparedness to host Commonwealth and Olympic games.

Representatives from the Committee for Geelong and G21 Geelong Region Alliance have been asked to address today’s proceedings.

Geelong was due to host events including swimming, gymnastics and volleyball.

The event’s closing ceremony was going to be held at Kardinia Park before the Victorian government announced last month it would not hosting the games.

Premier Daniel Andrews has been asked to attend, but will not be compelled to turn up.
