National Cabinet has met to discuss the ongoing fuel crisis, with the Prime Minister announcing the fuel excise will be halved for the next three months.
Anthony Albanese said the virtual talks today were looking at options to boost supply, including a national fuel security plan.
The price of unleaded across Greater Geelong is ranging from $2.52 a litre up to $2.60 a litre.
He said the excise would reduce the price of petrol and diesel by 23.6 cents a litre.
“We’re making fuel cheaper today because we understand that Australians are under serious pressure,” he said.
“However we really also want to encourage Australians who can, to take public transport, to help save fuel for the areas and industries that need it.”
The Prime Minister also announced the government would also reduce the heavy vehicle road user charge to zero for three months to help truck drivers.
