Remembrance Day marked across the region

Locals will this morning mark Remembrance Day across the region.

The day signifies the signing of the armistice – and the formal end of the first World War.

The day now used to pay tribute to all Australian’s who served in conflict.

Geelong RSL will be holding its Remembrance Day service at Johnstone Park this morning.

The service will get underway from 10.30 with a minute’s silence at 11 o’clock,

There’ll also be a service and wreath laying at Point Danger War Memorial in Torquay from quarter to 11.

Matthew Jack from Geelong RSL said it was important to mark the day.

“It’s not just about those who have left us,” he said.

“We remember those who are gone, but we also remember those who are still with us and continuing to go through life.

“It’s an incredibly important day for us all.”

Geelong Broadcasters will observe a minutes silence on air at 11am.
