Servo staff cop abuse over fuel prices

Service station operators across Geelong and the Surf Coast are reporting rising levels of abuse amid high petrol prices.

Operators are reporting staff being abused by motorists.

Apco director Peter Anderson said drivers were ‘triggered’ by the Fuel Saver app, which was not always updating.

“We’re finding that people are coming in and saying ‘oh the price on the pump’s different to the price on the fuel app’,” he said.

“We’re finding that sometimes people’s phones are not updating, which has been a regular occurrence.

“Sometimes it hasn’t updated for three or four days on their phones.”

He said the Victorian government is not paying any attention to service station owners’ concerns, which he said was disappointing.

Meantime, Mr Anderson said they were working through the details of the federal government’s announcement to halve the fuel excise for three months.

“It means we’re going to be able to drop our prices by 26.3c/litre, but we’ve got to find out more information about it,” he said.
