The Spirit of Tasmania has become a centrepoint in a no-confidence motion in Tasmania that could kill their AFL team.

Delays on the Tasmanian port that have prevented the new ship sailing between Geelong and Devonport could force the state back to the polls.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff is expected to lose the motion today, and could respond by calling a snap election.

The delay could mean missing a deadline on the new stadium, which could end the AFL bid.

The new replacement ship, Spirit of Tasmania IV, is currently sitting in Scotland as the new dock in Devonport is not ready.

The no-confidence motion also looking at budget issues in the state.

Despite delays on the ship, City of Greater Geelong and Devonport City Council recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on opportunities for economic development growth and tourism.
