Barwon Water is trying to keep us out of gross situation with new sensors in our sewers.
The sensors – which are currently in trial stage – could alert workers to levels and potential blockages before they become issues.
It would mean works to prevent environmental issues before they get out of control could be in the works.
General Manager Smart and Sustainable Infrastructure David Snadden said it hoped to deliver some new systems for the region.
“This is one more step in our transition from reacting to disruptive and damaging spills, to proactively identifying issues and acting quickly to prevent them,” he said.
“The sensors will help us to spot the warning signs of a spill and to stop them before they occur, allowing us to direct our resources into timely and high-value maintenance.”
