More than 200 people have been caught speeding across Geelong and the Surf Coast during the unofficial Anzac Day long weekend.

Operation Tribute ran from Wednesday to Sunday across Victoria.

Four drink drivers and 11 drug drivers were also intercepted on local roads during the five-day operation.

Other offences included unlicensed and disqualified driving, not wearing a seatbelt and disobeying signs.

Three drink drivers were caught in Wyndham, with another 61 motorists fined for speeding.

Almost 7,000 offences were picked up across Victoria, with police worried at the number of drivers caught using their mobile phone.

Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir said there was a clear lack of regard for the rules.

“The number of people fined for things that are so easily avoidable, like using a mobile phone or failing to wear a seatbelt, also remains baffling to us,” he said.

“Police will continue to be out enforcing anywhere, anytime, so if you’re think you won’t be caught doing the wrong thing, there’s a good chance we’ll catch up with you”.
